The Basics of Public Relations and Event Planning

Welcome to my Blog everyone! I am so excited to be able to share with all of your tips to better succeed as PR and Event Planning interns. My hope is to take all the lessons I learned from my employers at my competitive internship, as well as the courses I have taken at Rutgers.

Entering the communication field allows you to explore many options. There is public relations, event planning, sales, brand marketing, and much more. You get to work with clients face to face, interact with social media such as blogs, facebook, twitter, etc., and use your writing skills to create news features, press releases, pitch, and more. There are so many avenues one can explore through the field on communication but for the function of this blog it will focus manly on pr and event planning.

Rutgers offers many courses in public relations and communication as a whole. Some courses I have found help are intro to communication, message design, principles of public relation, interviewing, and strategic presentation to help with social media and 21st century technology and programs.

To let you in on a secret, going into the interview I had only taken intro to communication and zero public relations courses. During my interview I brought my "A game" and showed the employer that I was confident, ready to learn, and just the person they were looking for, for the internship. I was recommended by a sorority sister of mine so I already had a few extra inches on everyone else. This industry is about who you know not what you know, how you compose yourself, and what more you can bring to the table to make the company even better.
